The Internet Campaign to Help North Korean Flood Victims

LETTER SENT TO DANDON IMPORT & EXPORT CORPORATION

Tokyo March 21, 1997

Mr. Yu Guodong
Dandong Import & Export Corp.

FAX: 86-415-2126281

Dear Mr. Yu Guodong

Thank you very much for your fax on March 20. Your price of $235 per metric ton to be deliered to Sinuiju sounds reasonable.

I have already ordered 200 tons of rice through a Thai trading company which is consolidating rice in Vietnam for various NGOs and it will be transported to Nampo on a North Korean ship, delivery around mid-April.

If more donations come in between now and then I would like to consider getting additional rice from you, delivered to my attention in Sinuiju at a date I would specify to you in April on perhaps only a few days' notice.

Can you advise me whether you would accept an order for as little as 50 tons but it might be more, what is the degree of broken rice, and how much notice do you need for the delivery, once the funds have been wired to you.

For example if I fax or phone you to prepare an order and wire the funds the same day, can you deliver it to the set schedule, probably to the hotel in Sinuiju where I would come to sign for it and then distribute it to the famined people in the Sinuiju area. If I am able to set this up I probably would come to Sinuiju from Pyongyang but return to Beijing and Tokyo with a one day layover in Dandong after receiving the rice in Sinuiju, this time with my daughter.

I will also post your offer on my Internet Home Page which can be accessed by computers all over the world and you may get additional inquiries. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Bernard Krisher
