I will arrive in Pyongyang on March 5 to distribute rice, blankets, clothes and shoes again to the Flood Victims in North Korea. A daily report from Pyongyang of the donations activities will also appear on this home page from around March 6 to 12. Persons who wish to pledge further donations while we are in Pyongyang can fax me at the Koryo Hotel, FAX: 850-2-381-4422 (from March 5 to 12. My son Joseph (who will document the donations through video and stills) and I will leave Tokyo on March 3 via Beijing. We will have an audience with King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia on March 4 and then fly on to Pyongyang on the 5th. I collected the equivalent of $65,000 (in many currencies) through our Internet campaign up to February 20 when I wired this amount in Swiss Francs to Geneva where rice was purchased from a trading company at $250 per metric ton. This includes the cost of delivery to Nampo port in North Korea within two weeks. This rice is now en route to Nampo where it is scheduled to arrive on March 4 or 5. We plan to drive to Nampo on March 6 or 7 from Pyongyang to receive the rice, which is consigned to me. I am hiring trucks in North Korea to transport the rice to Pyongyang and then to the various villages in the flood area where I will personally distribute it to the civilian population. The Rehabilitation Flood Committee has informed me the trucks and drivers will be available without charge. I will only buy the gasoline. This distribution will be documented through videos and stills Joseph will take. A selection of these will appear on our Home Page on our return. The shipment of clothes, blankets (donated by World Mate), powdered milk (donated by Wyeth-Eisai) shoes (donated by Otsuka Shoe Co) etc. left Japan on the Mangyongbong from Niigata on February 23rd and will arrive at Wonsan Port. We also plan to pick up these boxes after our arrival in North Korea and similarly truck them to Pyongyang and then distribute them in the rural areas. The Flood Rehabilitation Committee in Pyongyang has communicated with us about these arrangements and we are confident they will work smoothly based on our similar donation experience last November. We will continue to collect donations in cash to purchase rice and make periodic distribution trips such as these, the next one in May or June. The $65,000 so far collected and wired to Geneva will buy 260 tons of rice at $250 per metric ton. One ton of rice will feed 75 persons for one month so this contribution will keep 19,500 persons fed for one month. Any contributions received by March 2 will enable us to purchase more rice and feed more people during this trip. Pledges for funds not received in time will still enable us to advance funds for such purchases. Contributions may be wired to: Account # 748849 Sumitomo Bank, Hiroo Garden Hills Branch, Tokyo. The Account Name is: North Korea Flood Relief or Checks sent to: Internet Appeal for North Korean Flood Victims c/o Bernard Krisher, 4-1-7-605 Hiroo, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo (150), Japan Contributors will be listed on the Internet Home Page, unless they desire not to be listed. A full accounting of the donations and expenditures will appear after I return from this trip. Bernard Krisher February 24, 1996
